Hi Yasmine ^_^
I'm a student from Dr. Strange's 310 EDM class from the U. of South Alabama. That was a great summary about the book. It makes me want to read it. I normally read the genre of fantasy-adventure, but you certainly had a way of peeking my interest in this horse. Keep up the good work ^_^

Blog Post # 13

ALEX

I think this website is very easy to navigate. You can easily find your course of study and and the objectives for that course and it even gives you an option to print them out. The web sources are great, and again, it's very easy to find your specific area of teaching. I want to teach high school science, whether it's biology or zoology or genetics, and it links you to all sorts of websites you could view to help you teach the class. It's a lot of sites all on one page that pertain to a lot of things instead of just Googling something yourself and having millions of websites to look through. There are even lessons plans and a professional learning network. This seems to be a great tool for any teacher in Alabama.

ACCESS

I have witness the use of ACCESS at LeFlore Magnet High School. At first it seemed like a good idea, but the whole reason they have ACCESS is because they don't have enough teachers. Since they have an overflow of students and not enough teachers some kids at this high school have a lab black where they are taught by an online teacher. It's just like taking an online class at a college. The lectures are online, the power points are online, the quizzes are online and you email the teacher any questions or concerns.

Depending on what subject it is, I think I would be okee with an ACCESS lab class. For the subject I witnessed ACCESS, I thought it was horrible. It was for physical science and they got rid of one of the teachers, yet they can pay for the online teacher. In physical science there is chemistry and physics and those concepts are not like learning a story for history or English, or Spanish, even biology paints a story. I felt like those kids were being robbed. Mostly because this class if for freshmen and most freshmen aren't disciplined enough for a total online class. And from what I gathered, the proctor of the class doesn't have to be knowledgeable about the subject. I think ACCESS in conjecture with a regular classroom teacher would be very fun for the students though, like an online Lab for whatever class you take.

Hi Graham.
I'm a student from the University of South Alabama. In Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class we have the privilege of being able to peek at different student blogs from all around the world. This week I got to see yours. You did a fantastic job with your picture and memory sentence. When I was younger the sentence I was taught to remember the planets was: My Very Excited Mother Just Us Nine Pies. Pluto isn't a planet anymore so I guess my sentence doesn't match now-a-days =)
Continue to keep up the good work!

Hey Chase.
I'm a student from the University of South Alabama. Do you like history? I enjoyed reading your blog about Columbus and how you felt about certain phrases because your right, a lot of things do change over time. It must have been really neat to Skype with an expert =)
Great blog post, keep up the good work.

I think creating a Voki for your first blog post would have been fun. That way instead of typing out a paragraph for people to read, when they came to your blog, they could have watched a little interactive cartoon.

A PLN Response from one of the Teachers

Hey Pauline,

Sorry it took so long to respond to the question you asked on my blog about the value of building a PLN. I actually turned your question into an entry. It won't be posted until this Saturday, but you can read it below.

I hope it helps!
Bill

In response to a recent blog post that I wrote about Twitter as a tool for learning, Pauline---a college student following my blog as a part of a class project---wrote:

I'm still working on my PLN, but I'm failing to see the importance of it. I think that most of the time when people have questions, they just research and read blogs and websites and so forth when the question arises.

I could be wrong, of course. I know that's how I think. I'm following a few people on twitter for my EDM class, but again, I'm failing to see why it's so important. Maybe you can explain it better?

Good questions, Pauline---and for many people who are new to building a PLN, their benefits might seem sketchy at best simply because we've become so comfortable with our current learning practices and processes.

I can tell you, though, that my own digital learning network has changed the way that I work. In fact, rarely a day goes by that I don't learn something---a teaching technique, how to use a new tool, what's happening in the world of education beyond my own building----from the people that I join together with online.

Let me point you to a few posts that I've written that might convince you to invest a bit more time into your PLN building efforts:

Twitter as a Tool for Professional Development
In this post, I give several practical reasons why I've decided to use Twitter to build a PLN. It's a great post if you're interested in an overview of why digital forums can be sources for real learning for teachers.

Lathered Brilliance, Superman Underoos and Social Media Spaces
In this post from my blog---which started with a few thoughts in the shower---I give a tangible example of how my own personal learning network made my life easier by pointing me immediately to thoughts and resources that I needed. It's connected to the idea that environments that build walls stifle innovation. PLNs are the ultimate wall-busters.

Why Teachers Should Try Twitter
In this article for Educational Leadership magazine, I work to explain how Twitter has served as a tool for customizing my professional development---tailoring it to meet my own professional needs----which is something that rarely happens in the typical school setting. I also introduce some of the nuts and bolts details behind how to go about building your PLN.

Technology Facilitates Connections
As I explain in this post, I believe that all true learning depends on connections between individuals. I push your thinking. You push mine. We both learn together. Those are skills that are enabled when one builds a PLN using digital tools because we can make our thinking transparent to more people, more often. What really drives me is a desire to start teaching my own students to use digital tools in the same way.

Twitter Hashtags for Educators
One of the reasons that I think many people underestimate Twitter is because they haven't figured out how to use hashtags to search for content that might be valuable to them. Even if you aren't actively networking in Twitter, you can still quickly find content connected to your work by searching through the links that I share in this post and in this post.

Does any of this make sense to you? I think if I had to summarize the importance of building a PLN, I"d say something like, "PLNs help teachers to refine their core beliefs, to test their newest hunches, to find likeminded peers, and to efficiently access a constant stream of valuable resources."

Radical readers, do you have any additional thoughts for Pauline? Why is your PLN important to you? What steps or strategies should someone interested in building a PLN take first? What other resources on PLNs can you share with her?

Let's fill up the comment section with a collection of our best thinking on the role that PLNs can play in the learning of today's teacher.

Bill Ferriter

Wow, these kids blew me away. They are very tech savvy. They are being exposed to blogging and skyping and wikis and all sorts of things. Depending on what kind of school I teach at, meaning if everyone would have computer access or not, I would like to use blogs and wikis for the students to improve writing skills as well as exchanging scientific ideas with each other since that's what I would be teaching. If computer access wouldn't be plausible, I'm sure if we had a smart board we could skype other scientific experts as a whole class.

Skyping with Ms. Kathy

She does a lot with her first grade class. And she doesn't hold back anything from her students because of their age either. She teaches them and expects them to use it. I wouldn't have expected 5-7 year olds to be able to engage like her class engages with the rest of the world by using internet tools and videos and such. And that just proves to show how ignorant I am. I guess if I think about it, children a lot younger than my nieces and nephews seemed to be just as tech savvy as they are. I have no problem admitting that younger people are way better than me when it comes to computer stuff, I just didn't realize how young all these tech savvy people could be.

Set Me Free

Set Me Free ~ Casting Crowns

It hasn't always been this way
I remember brighter days
Before the dark ones came
Stole my mind
Wrapped my soul in chains

Now I live among the dead
Fighting voices in my head
Hoping someone hears me crying in the night
And carries me away

Set me free of the chains holding me
Is anybody out there hearing me?
Set me free

Morning breaks another day
Finds me crying in the rain
All alone with my demons I am
Who is this man that comes my way?
The dark ones shriek
They scream His name
Is this the One they say will set the captives free?
Jesus, rescue me

As the God man passes by
He looks straight through my eyes
And darkness cannot hide

Do you want to be free?
Lift your chains
I hold the key
All power on Heav'n and Earth belong to me

You are free
You are free
You are free

Blog Post # 10

Hi, I'm a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class.
I can understand how it seems like we are getting robbed here in the United States because of the way overall education is handled. I'm kind of a nerd, so I kind of like the lecture classes in my subject area, the biological sciences, but I can admit that I don't ever look forward to lectures from other teachers in different subject areas, I struggle to stay awake also. I think someone said that we're the only country that requires college students to be "well-rounded" everywhere else they just focus on their emphasis and are spared from buying expensive, useless textbooks and from falling asleep in class. Yeh, a college classroom is a pretty expensive napping place.
I agree with you also, I'm not one to drop out of school, b/c unfortunately that is just how the system is still set up in this country, but learning all the new technologies in this education transition will certainly give future teachers a leg up :)

Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home

Hi, I'm a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class here at the University of South Alabama.
I agree, that a student's total comprehension and understanding can't be strictly based off of drill and kill bubble tests.
And also how your solution was just to be flexible. I think if more educators were a little bit more flexible and open in their thinking and teaching, a lot of classrooms would change for the good, after all, everyone learns differently. I personally think hangman is a great way to memorize spelling words, one f my elementary teachers played that game with our class, it was fun and I thought it helped.
Great post.

Two questions that can change your life from Daniel Pink on Vimeo.

My response to these questions can be summed up with these lyrics in this song

Legacy ~ Nichole Nordeman

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
At such'n'such ... it wouldn't matter much

I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights
We all need an 'Atta boy' or 'Atta girl'
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world

I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthy list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon enough destroy

Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred
Just want to hear instead, "Well Done" good and faithful one...

so what is my sentence?

I would like my sentence to be, "She wasn't afraid to share her faith as she pointed others to the Way in Yeshua HaMashiach." Did I plant more seeds than I did yesterday? Did I remember to water the seeds I planted already? G-d only knows, but I truly desire to be a better disciple today than yesterday :)

Hi Bill.
I'm a student from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class at the U. of South Alabama. In today's world of education, how critical would you say having a PLC? I'm still working on my PLN, but I'm failing to see the importance of it. I think that most of the time when people have questions, they just research and read blogs and websites and so forth when the question arises. I could be wrong, of course. I know that's how I think.
I'm following a few people on twitter for my EDM class, but again, I'm failing to see why it's so important. Maybe you can explain it better?
Even though this blog was short, it seemed very critical about pointing out these PLC networks.

Hello Russ.
I'm a student from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class at the U. of South Alabama.
You post was very insightful and informative. We also had to sign up for an account at Evernote for this class. I signed up for it, but I couldn't make heads or tails with it. I think I managed to make one memo inside of Evernote. I'm much happier just making memos on my blackberry.
You gave a good case for using Evernote. I think I will try again to explore that application. Being able to organize and record with it the way you do seems like a great tool for all teachers :)

Hi :) I'm Pauline, a student from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class, here at the University of South.

That's an awesome photograph you took :)
I would call it Timeless Steel or something like that. Because it looks as good as new, even tho it's an older ship, but it still has its presence and pride about it for when it was used to serve the country :) All heroes are timeless by their own right, after all.
Keep up the good work on your blog and your photograph career, you have a great eye :)

Blog Post # 9

What I've Learned This Year

Wow. I really liked his blog a lot. He was really honest about how his own preconceptions were in error. A lot of teachers never admit that they are wrong, they might think the students will see it as a weakness or something, but I think kids respect adults more when we can admit we were wrong. I think a lot of us have preconceived notions about how our first year of teaching will go. I'm all for being optimistic about our first day of school, but I think if we are not aware of the reality of the expectations and we get boom-sauced on our first day of school it could damage our spirits. I know when we have ideas in our heads and they don't play out the way we want, we feel very crushed. Crushed teachers wouldn't be helpful.

He has learned a lot. And he was opened to learning. He has a very teachable spirit and that is important for teachers, to always be willing to learn and to think outside the box. Warning us that the lesson plans we actually make and what we actually teach might be different, but that it's okee that they are different was nice. So it's not the end of the world if the plans are a little different. And remembering that our plans need to be student-centered. And our performance should be aligned with the kid's comprehension, not someone with a clipboard marking tallies.

How writers used to dream and how they should dream collide in these videos. The first one was about incremental changes and the second video was about fundamental changes in how writers and teachers should approach this new era of creativity. Honestly, I didn't quite grip the new concept of technology he was talking about. I understand that audio helps with things and pretty visuals are alluring too. And I understand how a lot of books and journals are on the web as well as in hard print, more so probably on the web. It sounded like he was talking about somehow putting book books on the web too, I mean, I could be wrong, that's just how that one part came across. Using media tools and designs are great ideas for teaching and getting points across in short snippets. And the web is great for research and up to the minute statistics. I'm not quite sure how using those kind of tools would help a novelist though as much as it would help a teacher...

The CHIPPER video made some good points about not procrastinating and pointing out the struggle that a lot of us deal with in this class, like time management and not learning in the traditional way we are used to. Some of the other things seemed a little extreme. Personally I think online classes and online degrees take a lot more disciple to accomplish and self-manage, it baffles me that a character like her would complete it to be able to go back to school school for her Masters. I mean, i got the idea of it all, but they were still pretty extreme situations...and for the record, my dad did drive trucks, roadoff trucks, dumptrucks or however you would call them...garbage trucks, and no, my dad doesn't have a high school education, but while he was at work, he helped a lot of people and encouraged them and made them laugh, everywhere he goes, people love him. So even though most people consider jobs like that "low" jobs, someone has to do them, and some of them don't mind doing them or think they are "low" in society b/c they do have jobs like that. I know that's neither hear nor there b/c the point of the video was to not procrastinate and to be responsible, but as future educators we have to be aware of any and all plausible sensitive issues.

There isn't much to say about this video other than the fact that I concur :) I do feel extremely frustrated at times and I think my time management is a little better, but not great and I'm still confused about what to do and how to prove the progress for my PLN.

Randy Pausch's last lecture was a very sobering lecture. I believe him to be a wise man when it comes to teaching and encouraging others. A lot of people think they know how to motivate other people, but it is written that, "The purpose in a man's heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out." I know Pausch was a man of understanding that drew out a lot of people's potential and helped motivate them toward their own purposes in this life. Even now, his words are being heard and are touching people's hearts in a good way. A lot of people do forget about their childhood dreams once they get beat up and cast down just by living in a fallen world, but despite the facts of that, the truth of the matter is hope never disappoints.

I agree with his overall message and I believe that everyone should watch it, that it would bless them. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. So keep believing in your childhood dreams and keep hoping they will come to pass because with their fruition, life like you could have never imagined will most assuredly come.

This video had some good points. I think it depends on the type of learner the student is to be able to do something like that long term. I can admit that I have a problems with organizing information, that's why I prefer textbooks b/c it's all there at my finger tips. Of course I sometimes supplement my notes with some things offline, but it's very few and far between b/c when i search for stuff it takes hours and hours to find what I'm looking for. And of course I wouldn't mind listening to other professors in their areas of expertise for free, not sure how the people paying to go to those elite universities would feel about that though. I also think it depends on the subject area you're studying. For example, I'm a science major, but a lot of science journals cost money to see either way. A lot of them are free too, but the free ones are like looking for a needle in a haystack. And I know there are a lot of psyche classes, but I'm not sure how I would feel if someone who had all psyche classes like with no textbooks or tests as far as I know, to diagnose someone. But overall, connectivity and seeing other point of views is a good thing.

A symbaloo is a cool thing. I have one, but I don't use it that much. But I think it's a good tool for something like that. All her assignments and blogs and responses and tasks and homework were all in one area for her instead of going through numerous web pages, clicking link after link to find stuff. It's great that she felt the responsibility of having to complete all her work. After all, the Word says not to despise youth. So as teachers we should be able to trust them with more things. Plus learning time management at a young age will definitely help them for when they get to college. My lack of time management is one of the reasons I'm repeating this, after all.

I think his speech reached people. I'm sure whoever watches this video would do an introspection about their own view of self. There were a lot of quotes he used from other people that I'm sure are echoing in everyone's mind by now.
The lack of community, people becoming fragmented and people being narcissistic has already been written: "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves..." 2 Timothy 3:1. If you continue to read through verse five, a lot of what is written is displayed throughout the world, throughout media and social networks.
Near the end of the speech, he was showing all sorts of people making videos to anyone who had access to it. For it is written: " 9 Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. " Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.
Yes, youtube is a community of sorts, but even with youtube videos, the video about free hugs still stands out the most. But why? Because we need each other. All those hugs made more of a difference in people's lives versus talking to a camera. Praise G-d we can see others sharing love, but that's my point. It's love what people are looking for, what they are crying out for. And yes, it would be awesome for people to respond to video posts and things like that, but for all those people making the "confessional" ones, I promise a real hug, a genuine act of love that they could feel would have changed their lives.
And I posted this last time, but I believe it would be good to post it again, regarding a new definition for "whatever."

The Fellowship Committed to Doing WHATEVER It Takes

I am part of the fellowship committed to doing "Whatever It Takes."
I have the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit).
The die has been cast.
I've stepped over the line.
I am out of the comfort zone.
The decision has been made.
I am a disciple of His.
I won't look back, let up, slow down, or back away.
My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure.
I am finished and done with low living,
sight walking, small planning, smooth knees,
colorless dreams, tame visions, mundane talking,
chincy giving, and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position or popularity.
I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized,
praise, regarded or rewarded.
I now live by presence,
lean by faith,
love by patience,
lift by prayer
and labor by power.
My face is set,
my gait is fast,
my goal is heaven,
my road is narrow,
my way is rough,
my companions are few,
my G-d is reliable,
my mission clear.
I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away,
turned back, diluted, or delayed.
I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice,
hesitate in the presence of adversity,
negotiate at the table of the enemy,
ponder at the pool of popularity,
or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won't give up,
shut up,
let up,
or burn up
-till
I've preached up,
prayed up,
paid up,
stored up,
and stayed up
for the cause of Christ.
I am a disciple of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah)
I must go till He comes,
give till I drop,
preach till all know
and work till He stops.
And when He comes to get His own,
He'll have no problem recognizing me
because I have dedicated my life to being part of the
fellowship committed to doing...
WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!

Eagles' Nest Radio & Class Blog

This presentation blew me away. I know the kids had to have had fun while making it. The whole newscast angle really made it creative. I think the kids did an excellent job in playing their role in the script. I like the idea of podcast become some people are camera shy, but are just fine when it's just voices :) And still being able to play dress up is always a plus. Costumes are always fun fun. A fantastic job, indeed.

This video was very helpful. I was having a hard time with my embedding my podcast in my blog. I thought I exported it and saved it the right way and things like that. But in the end, I just ended up recording my screen with my recorded podcast playing, so technically I still embedded a video. So I'm going to try again to embed it as a regular podcast. I think this was a great tutorial.

100 Ways to Use your iPod

This was a very useful article. 100 ways is a lot of uses for something that a lot of people only think plays music and some videos. I used to be one of those people who thought it only played music and and some videos. I can't honestly say how proactive i will be in trying to understand and use all these tools for my ipod, between my smartphone and my laptop I get along pretty well. But for young people who might not have laptops or smartphones, but do have an ipod, I think learning these techniques would be good for them and even for us teachers to learn so we can share then with our students. I would be the coolest biology teacher on campus if I encouraged them to study and recite memory things using their ipods! lol

Hi Yolanda.
My name is Pauline and I'm a student from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. Your blog was very informative and well written. Family is one of the most important thing in my life also, only second to serving my G-d the best way I possibly can. I have two dogs also, Spudnik and Oynx. They make up a lot of colorful memories in my life. You seemed to be a quick study and well-versed in all your subject areas. Math was never my strong suit, but if I had your attitude when it came to the subject, I know I would have done a lot better. It's awesome how confident you are. I'm glad you are blessed with a spirit of excellence and that you always strive to do well in everything. Keep up the good work. Effort goes a long way.

Don’t teach your kids this stuff. Please?

Hello,
I'm in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. I've read your poem before over the summer session. Even after taking this EDM 310 class and realizing that there is a lot I still need to learn just so I can recognize what my future students are doing, it doesn't change the fact that I still consider this particular poem of yours ostracizing.

I was told that sarcasm works. Most mature adults find this sort of sarcasm beyond foolish and just plain mean. Deliberately calling people out, especially when it comes to their children and their child's future, seems like it would tick people off more so than get them to see your reasoning on why teaching all this new digital technology is vital.

Yes, there are safety measures people can take and teach their children about working the web and going to websites and things like that. But if a parent's genuine concern for their child trumps "the need" to learn all the ins and outs of the digital world, who are you to say that they are wrong? And who are you to ridicule their methods? And who are you to say what is more important?

You don't know who I am. And you may or may not know what Adonai says about safe-keeping and stewarding over children. But I will let you know that my fear of Him trumps whatever you may write.

I'm not that old, but most of the time from what I've seen, being pushy and sarcastic has the opposite of effect. But then again, a lot of things have changed in a very short time, a lot of things and tones people use are totally accepted today as normal vs. 5 or 10 years ago when the same inflections would have been considered rude.

The iSchool initiative video was certainly a convincing idea. If there was a way to totally prevent cheating, I would consider using the iTouch for some things. But on the other hand, I thought my generation had it easy with calculators and word processors. We still had to memorize formulas and other things and the older generation thought we were getting away with murder. I can only imagine what those same people would think about all these applications young people can now use instead of their own brain. This generation is our future, they are going to be running the country one day and none of them will know how to do a lot of basic skills that previous generations know how to do. Everyone is screaming for innovation, but how can innovation come with you have all sorts of machines doing all the thinking for you?

This video is one of my favorite in this class. It is written that, "the power of life and death is in the tongue." And this young girl is speaking life over her future and the future of her generation. It sad that so-called experts are so pessimistic. Can we have some experts in optimism? I read some of the comments other webusers have posted on the video before and lot of them ridiculed it. Which makes me sad because that means they already gave up the fight and will settle for whatever the government or so-called experts say about them and their future lives.

And a lot of others took a stand with this train of thought. For with man this is impossible, but with Adonai (G-d) all things are possible, including changing those dreary statistics about this "lost generation."

This blew me away. I have no idea how this was done. But it sounds and looks amazing. I can only imagine what this would sound like in a real opera hall with all the acoustics going on. It would be breath-taking. But this is no little feat either. The voices and the presentation itself with how they clipped together all the different videos was really nice. Despite what some people may think, I give credit where credit is due ^_^ and I think they did an excellent job.

Learning little by little

This is my first Google presentation that I did over the summer. I messed up at first, but this one has music playing instead of me talking, which I like MUCH better ^_^

Walking in Love

Blog Post # 3

I believe this video represents an accurate depiction of students in universities in this day and age. There are a lot of classroom sizes that are just huge. Some people fall asleep, some people pay attention, and now with technology, others are surfing the web while in class. I'm guilty of answering to a few responses over the internet while I should have been paying attention in class. But at the time, the questions I was answering or asking via email or facebook, seemed more pressing than whatever the teacher was talking about at that exact moment in time. A lot of questions that people have are not answered in the front of a classroom with someone lecturing to a power point and referencing a textbook that everyone had to buy but nobody uses.

I do believe knowledge is power. For it is written that, "...a man of knowledge increases strength." But what do people define as strength nowadays? I think a lot of people have knowledge about a lot of things, but they don't know what to do with it. Teachers pass on a lot of knowledge and facts and opinions and then test us on it. In turn, what do we do with what we just got tested on? Most of us just brain dump it.

Incorporating knowledge into everyday life is a foreign concept to most of us. Everything in our lives is compartmentalized into our school brain, work brain, faith brain, relationship brain, etc. Most of what people classify as knowledge as in textbook facts are registered to our school brain and therefore dumped at the end every semester.

Yet there are problems such as wars, ethnic conflicts, etc... that were mentioned in this video that require our knowledge and wisdom and our strengths all working together to solve, but we don't know how to do that because the way we are "educated" has nothing to do with being educated for life on a grander scale.

It is also written, "Where there is no vision, My people cast off restraint." I say the video above pretty much showed that we are lacking vision and therefore do seem like we are aimlessly wandering around in universities with open laptops, closed textbooks and no one to say who's the wiser.

It was also mentioned in the video that some thought technology could save us, or was supposed to save us. Only One saves, and He isn't a mac or pc.

It's Not About the Technology

Hello Mrs. Hines. I am a student from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class, here at the University of South Alabama. I agree with you on a lot of points. There must be a change in our mindsets to be effective teachers. A lot of teachers shy away from all the new technology, and a lot of teachers rely too much on technology. Believe me, I've been in a classroom that if it wasn't for the power point or videos, I can honestly say that the teacher had no idea what even they were supposed to be talking about. There needs to be a proper balance in this classroom. Teachers need to have teachable spirits, hence, not ashamed of being the student themselves and continuing their own journey of learning where in turn they can teach others.

Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

Hello. I'm a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. I do agree with you that there should be some minimal requirement of basic tech skills for all teachers to have.

I also think how tech literate they must be depends on what age they teach as well as which subject matter they teach though. I'm sure a teacher teaching an a.p. physics class at a high school would know much more about certain computer programs and tools for the sake of their class versus a first grade teacher who is still trying to teach their kids how to write neatly and read.

I'm not saying teachers should limit their own knowledge regarding technology based on their classes, that's absurd. But if a teacher only knows the basics with a couple extra tools in their arsenal for their particular class, I don't think they should be looked down upon.

This chart certainly has a lot of mind-boggling numbers. And I believe it furthers support the fact that we are living in exponential times. And as stated in an earlier blogpost, it is written, "...the time of the end. Many will rush here and there as knowledge increases." If people aren't rushing here and there physically, we are certainly rushing to a lot of place electronically. Even if it would take my physical body 14 hours on an airplane to get to Spain, it would take one my text messages or facebook posts a matter of seconds to reach someone in Spain. Our bodies don't have to be in any one physical place to pass on the knowledge from our brains or the wisdom from our hearts.

Blog Post 2

There were a lot of things in this video that I didn't remember since the last time I watched it. I can easily agree that the times we are living in are exponential times. Did you know that G-d revealed to Daniel in a vision that in “the time of the end,” travel and knowledge will increase:

"But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end. Many will rush here and there as knowledge increases." Daniel 12:4 (CJB)(Complete Jewish Bible)

According to the book of Daniel, two things will increase in “the time of the end” – travel and knowledge. Thanks to technological advances, people are more opt to hop on a airplane than a horse or a bike and the internet alone has created a world wide archive of human knowledge.

Did you know that other facts portrayed in this video, like the population explosions in China and India also fulfill prophetic Scriptures?

100 years ago Mr. Winkle would have been blessed to be in a school building with light bulbs. And now he has awaken in a world where light bulbs are old news and if it's not touch-screen then it's out of date. A lot of technological innovations have been developed over the last century that has literally shifted the entire world. All places in first world countries have been innovated from daycares and corporate businesses to medical research and space exploration.

In most cases, the school buildings still look the same, but the students sitting in the desks have changed. These students have access to all sorts of tools like the internet, smart phones, mp3 players in and outside of their classrooms. 100 years ago a family would have been blessed if there were a couple books on a shelf vs. today where having a multitude of books and video games and the such in a house are the norm.

I agree with everything this man said. In the beginning, G-d created the heavens and the earth. And He created all of us, we are made in His image. He is a very creative G-d, so why wouldn't we be creative also? Creativity and imagination are practically innate in children until it's whittled away by grown-ups who have forgotten what it was like to look at the world through innocent minds.

I also believe that the whole academic world is slightly biased in what they train young minds for.

This is the second time I have watched this video. The first time I watched it, the story at the end stuck out to me the most, about the dancing little girl who is now world renowned. But this time around I heard him say that children aren't afraid to fail. They are programmed over time that mistakes are the worse thing that can happen. From my experience, it seemed that being a perfectionist is what everyone wanted or expected of you. But being a cookie cutter in society doesn't leave much room for creative innovation.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

Teaching students how to teach themselves seems more exciting than spoon-feeding them knowledge. Encouraging young people to discover and learn some things on their own makes way for innovation. I believe that as young people are learning and sorting through things, if they come across something they don't really like, if no one is there to say, "too bad, that's just the way it is," then they are free to create something else. The thoughts of impossibilities aren't there until they are planted. Unfortunately those seeds of doubt are planted at very young ages and people give up before they even try. Learning technology in classrooms is just one way to be creative though.

Hello. My name is Pauline Brown and I am currently a student at the University of South Alabama. I'm a secondary education major, emphasis in the biological sciences. I will be assigned to your blog for the next couple weeks for Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. Feel free to visit my blog: http://brownpaulineedm310.blogspot.com/

I do believe in multiple intelligences. As the school system is right now, do you think the classes are set up in a bias fashioned, catering more to the students with a specific type of intelligence or are they working more towards incorporating ways to reach out to the students who have high IQs in the not so well known intelligences? Also, how long have you been teaching?

Second comment:

Wow. I love the way you structured your classroom time. If we give students an opportunity to talk in an allotted time it would help a lot of restlessness. And furthermore, we control what they are talking about. I want to teach high school biology, and in MS the classes are almost 1.5 hours long. But i like your layout and I'm sure I can tweak it for the extended time period. Thank you again for your insight about their attention span and how you structure your class. I'm sure it helped a lot of teachers.

******************************************************************

Mrs. Carrillo has a lot of insights as a teacher. I can tell that she studies a lot of trends on her own time, which make her a much more resourceful teacher. She also has great tips on classroom time management. There are other blogs she wrote that I definitely want to check out and I encourage you to do the same. From what I read so far, she speaks in very direct, simple terms. I know a lot of teachers have their Masters and PhDs and are very intelligent people, but it's nice to read blogs that have the tone of everyday conversation.

Wordle - sh'ma yisrael

Wordle - sh'ma yisrael: "Wordle: sh'ma yisrael"

Blog Post 1

Hello, my name is Pauline.
I currently live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and I commute to USA four days a week. I used to attend USM on the Gulf Coast, but I didn't like that school too much, so I transfered here this past spring.

I still live at home with my parents. Between moving to California and back, Texas and back, and all the cities between; I am quite tired of moving and am really hoping and praying I don't have to move again until I get married, whenever G-d brings me my godly husband.

My parents are both retired and have adopted five foster children over the last couple years. The one little girl is 12 and the four little boys are 7 and under. Needless to say there is never a dull moment at our house.

I have been working with teenagers for almost three years. I love teenagers and I know that G-d has blessed me to be a part of their lives. I love young people and it breaks my heart that a lot of society just casts them off as future delinquents or bad kids when they don't even take the time to get to know them or their hearts. Seeing young people on fire for G-d blesses me beyond measure. It's truly an honor and a privilege to witness their passion.

I want to teach high school sciences because I just want a chance to be there for one of those teenagers. After all, we can still shine as a light in the darkness without necessarily opening our mouths. Young people, they can tell who sincerely loves them and is rooting for them.

Outside of my love for my awesome G-d and His precious young people, I love to study His Torah and all about the ancients. I love living our Messianic life style. It's fun being Jewish, it's even more fun being Jewish and knowing who the Messiah is ^_^

In my free time, I like to read books and watch anime.

P.s. This is my second time taking EDM 310. Take it from me, do NOT get behind in the work and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are still a lot of things I didn't check into last semester because when I tried I just cried. But this time around I will do my utmost to get acquainted with the tools that are presented in this class...there are a lot of them!

come out of her My people....

The Fall Feasts of YHWH detail the timing of the end time events as follows:

1.)The Abomination of Desolation will be seen in the 3rd Temple (Matthew 24:15) and then the 42 months of the Antichrist's false ministry will begin, while concurently the Two Witnesses prophesy against him globally for 3.5 years.

2.) Then there will be 30 more days of the month of Elul (1,290 days) see Daniel 12:11. At the end of the 1,290 days will begin the 7th month of Tishri (Feast of Trumpets), and this is “the last trump” (1st Cor 15:51-53). And this is when the 7th angel sounds as soon as the two witnesses are taken up. This all happens concurently with the other books of Revelation leading up to Revelation 20, as the book of Revelation cannot be read sequentially.

3.) There will be a 7 day literal marriage (Wedding of Jacob, Leah & Rachel--one week) and this is when we are changed into incorruption. Those 5 foolish virgins who are not ready are caught off guard by the “theif in the night” and they shall not escape (1st Thessalonians 5:2-3).

*Note: What I see, is that there is the resurrection of Leah (10 Northern Tribes of Israel assimilated as Gentiles) and there is a 7 day wedding. Then on Yom Kippur, Yeshua comes back and gets Rachel also. Remember in the prophetic pattern, Laban (symbolic of the Father), said to Jacob, “finish the week with Leah, and I will give you Rachel also.” Jacob was married to Rachel (2 southern tribes, Benjamin & Judah, Jews) at the end of the “week” after 7 days with Leah. And so on Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement, is when the house of Judah (Jews) discover if their names are written in the book of life, they also call this “face to face.” This will be the same day that Rachel (Jews) see him face to face and they will look upon him whom they pierced and they will mourn for him as one mourns for his only son (Zechariah 12:10).

Rachel will also be married to Yeshua (the remnant of Jews who did not take the mark of the Beast). And they also will be changed into incorruption at this point. The Two Witnesses are a special group of people who thought that they were Gentiles (Ephraim) and they discover their Hebraic Roots, so they join the Jews (Judah), and this is when the Two sticks (Ephraim & Judah) become one stick in the Lord’s hand (Ezekiel 37:16-17) and this is the same “one new man” the Apostle Paul spoke about in Ephesians 2:12-15.

This is that two witness group. They also are taken at the 7th trumpet (as the 7th angel sounds) in Revelation 11:15. This group goes with redeemed Leah (Gentiles who become one new man with Jews). Then 7 days later, the remnant of Rachel who did not take the mark, are also redeemed on Yom Kippur and changed. Then the two groups (Leah & Rachel) Gentile & Jew go into the marriage together to celebrate the drinking of the wine of the covenant on Feast of Tabernacles.

4.) There are 10 days between the Feast of Trumpets & the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), and so there are 3 of those days where the bride is given a 3 day notice that the groom is on the way. She hears the shouts from a 3 days journey in the distance and she knows that some time in those 3 days, he will be there to catch her away.

5.) While this is happening in the heavenlies, the children of wrath are having bowls of wrath being poured out on them and they still won’t repent (Revelation 14-20). This all happens during the 10 days of awe.

6.) After the 10 days of awe (3 day shouts and 7 day marriage), the bride comes back on white horses with the groom (Revelation 19). This day is known as “face to face” when the bride removes the veil and she sees him face to face. Yeshua takes vengeance on her enemies and avenges the blood of the saints on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). This is the day of wrath for the wicked.

7.) There are 5 days between the Day of Atonment & The Feast of Tabernacles, and this is the white throne judgment seat of Messiah---where the dead are judged. The righteous will receive rewards as to whether his works were of “wood, hay or stubble” (1st Corinthians 3:12).

8.) The Feast of Tabernacles is the wedding celebration where the groom drinks the cup of the covenant with his bride and consumates the marriage on the Feast of Tabernacles.

Let Us Prepare Ourselves & Repent During the Ten Days of Awe!

The commandment is given to “all Israel” (not just Judah/Jews), and this includes the New Testament grafted in branches (believers in Yeshua).

The Feast of Trumpets Begins Sunday September 20th 2009 at sundown:

*This is the true birth of our Savior Yeshua Messiah, we are blowing shofars as we “remember” his coming into the world to redeem us!

Leviticus 23:

23 And YHWH spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation (REHEARSAL).

25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto YHWH.

This is the Feast of Trumpets, called Yom Teruah literally “Day of Blowing.” This begins on the Karaite Barley Harvest Calendar on Sunday September 20th 2009 at sundown.

The Karaite Jews follow the “sighting of the new moon” along with the ripening of the barley each spring in the month Aviv (Exodus 12 & 13).

The Rabbinic Calendar follows a man made calculation started by Hillel II’s Calendar revisions in the 4th Century.

What Is a Biblical New Moon?

http://www.yrm.org/whatisbiblicalnewmoon.htm

Historically, new moon spotters in Israel watched for the thin crescent to establish the beginning of each month. Once seen they reported their sighting to the calendar court authorities of the Sanhedrin. Note what one authority says, “Originally, the New Moon was not fixed by astronomical calculation, but was solemnly proclaimed after witnesses had testified to the reappearance of the crescent of the moon,” Encyclopaedia Judaica, Vol. 12, p. 1039.

The switchover from watching for the first visible crescent to calculating conjunctions to determine the month’s beginning came with Hillel II’s calendar revisions in the 4th century C.E. “By the middle of the fourth century, the sages had established a permanent calendar and the public proclamation of the New Moon was discontinued” (Ibid).

Going by the calculated lunar conjunction contradicts the command in Deuteronomy 16:1: “Observe the month [chodesh, new moon] of Abib and keep the Passover…” Here, the word “observe” in the Hebrew is shamar and also means “look narrowly for, search” (No. 8104 in Strong’s). The Holladay Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon defines it as watching in the sense of looking. Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words includes the definitions “mark, watchman, wait, watch, look narrowly.” The command is to look for, wait for, watch and mark the new moon.

The Day of Atonement Begins Tuesday, September 29th 2009 at sundown:

Leviticus 23:

26 And YHWH spake unto Moses, saying,

27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation (REHEARSAL) unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YHWH.

28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Judgment Coming to America Unless We Repent!

Beloved, it is no coincidence that each year when these catastrophic events take place it is around the time of the Fall Feasts. Consider the events that occurred on September 11th 2001. And seven years later on Wall Street, the Financial Crisis with Lehman brothers occurred exactly 7 years later on September 11th 2008! This occurred after America was given a sabbatical of seven years to reflect on what happened on September 11th and still no repentance!

Beloved, our nation is on the brink of God’s Judgment. Disaster is looming. Every where we turn, we are hearing of wars, and rumors of wars. We are hearing about forced vaccinations, martial law, nuclear bombs going off in Washington D.C. We are hearing about famine, pestilences, economic collapse etc.

Yeshua our Messiah spoke of these events in his Olivet discourse in Matthew 24:

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

History repeats itself and our nation is no different than ancient Israel in the days when God had sent to her many prophets to warn her of impending judgments.

This past week, as I prayed, I asked the Father “what do you want me to read about in the scriptures?” He said “read the book of Amos.” As I read the book of Amos, I realized that he was speaking to me about America!

Listen to what he says:

Amos 5:

18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

Notice, that he does not say “I hate my feasts” he says “I hate your feasts” and he is speaking to them about the pagan holidays which they adopted from pagan sun god worship in Babylon! This is Christmas & Easter! People, you might be thinking to yourselves “this is really petty there are other sins worse than pagan holidays---what about abortion?” But God is saying to this nation, Abortion has a spiritual root! It comes from tolerating the religion of Jezebel and Ba’al worship seen in Christ Massacre & Easter!

Jezebel’s Religion began with Semiramis “The Queen of Heaven” at the Tower of Babel where babies were offered up to Moloch on December 25th and burned alive! Then after Nimrod, her son/husband was killed by Noah’s son Shem, his body parts were scattered to all ten province of Shinar and the only body part never found was his penis.

So Semiramis (his mother/wife) consulted her astrologers who told her that she would become pregnant by Nimrod’s “rays of the sun” on March 25th (Easter Sunday) because he was the god of the sun. Exactly 9 months later she would give birth to Tammuz on December 25th who was supposedly a reincarnation of Nimrod and this is why God was angry with Israel in Ezekiel 8 where he was about to send a messenger with an ink horn and a slaughter weapon to kill young and old in Ezekiel 9. He listed all the abominations for which he was going to destroy them for, and he says “they set up the image of jealousy” (Ezekiel 8:3).

This is the Washington Monument, a detestable image to Yah! He commands us to break down these images over and over again in scripture. It is an Obelisk; it is Nimrod’s Penis jutting up into the sky symbolizing intercourse with the Queen of Heaven his mother/wife.

They worship “Tammuz” the pagan sun god reincarnated each year on December 25th and they lump Jesus in with him also!

Ezekiel 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.

This is what is called “Lent” in today’s Catholic Church and even some Protestants are doing this now. Lent is a carry over from Tammuz who was killed by a wild pig while hunting at the age of 40 years old. Pagans sacrifice one day of pleasure for each year of Tammuz’s life for 40 days leading up to Easter, and then on Easter Sunday, when his mother (Semiramis) rises in the “East” where the sun comes up she is reincarnated and then babies are sacrificed on an altar in her honor on Easter Sunrise services, then the eggs are then dipped in the blood of these sacrificed infants!

THIS IS WHY ABORTION IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL IN AMERICA!!!

The Church must repent of Christ Mass & Easter and every vestige of pagan sun god worship if we want to rid our land of the demons that we invite into our worship when we do these things! And this is the reason why our prayers against abortion have not been effective as a church and as a nation! Sin is in our very own camp! God is saying to the church “judgment begins in my house!”

1st Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Ezekiel 9:

16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

17 Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.

*Note: Miseltoe, tree worship, Wicca, nature worship, Christmas trees decorated for Nimrod who was cut down like a tree. Jeremiah 10 warns us not to learn the ways of the heathen by cutting down a tree and decorating it with silver and gold. Semiramis commanded the Babylonians to cut down trees from the forest and to decorate them in memory of Nimrod (the god of the sun and the tree). He is also called “Ba’al” which means “Lord, or Husband.” The silver and gold balls were supposed to represent Nimrod’s testicles and this is what Christians do in honor of Jesus? He hates this practice and does not want us to associate him with it!

Listen to what Yah says because he is so angry about Pagan Sun God Worship:

Ezekiel 8:18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

This is a message to the Evangelical Born Again Christian Church today! They are worshipping the pagan sun god, not the real Jesus of the Bible! Paul the Apostle warned about this when he said to the Corinthians:

2nd Corinthians 11:

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Paul is telling these former pagans in the Corinthian Church “I fear for you, that if any so-called prophet comes to you preaching ANOTHER JESUS, you might bear with him or put up with him!”

Listen to the warning that Amos was given for Israel. It is the same warning for America!

Amos 5:

22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25 Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

American Born Again Christians, here me now! Stop looking to the politicians as the reason for our problems! The real problem is in the church!

We have prayer rallies and solemn assemblies calling for fasting and praying for our nation, but we don’t realize that God is calling born again Christians to put away Ba’al Worship!

Yeshua is calling “his people” to come out of MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS:

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Did you hear what Yeshua is saying to his people? He is commanding us to “come out” of the pagan customs from Mystery Babylon, the religion of Nimrod, Semiramis, & Tammuz. This is the same religion that Jezebel brought into Israel in the days of Elijah, and this is why Yeshua rebuked the church at Thyatira for tolerating her:

Revelation 2

19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Yeshua is rebuking the modern day American Evangelical Churches for tolerating the Ba’al worship of pagan holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day & Halloween. Now you might be saying to yourself “Maria, don’t be ridiculous, that sounds like legalism to me.”

You might already be conjuring up some scriptures from Galatians 4 and Colossians 2 to try to justify keeping pagan holidays. But I will tell you that Paul is not talking about judging one another for keeping pagan holidays in these scriptures. He is actually admonishing these former pagans in the Colossian & Galatian Churches not to go back under “doctrines and commandments of men.” In other words so-called “holy days” instituted by the corrupted leaders of Israel who copied the pagan holidays of Babylon. This is exactly what the Papacy has done today in the Christian Churches by inventing Easter (Ishtar, Queen of Heaven) Christ Mass (an abomination of re-crucifying Jesus afresh at every mass). Paul was telling the Colossians and the Galatians not to be entangled with so called “holy days” which have a form of godliness such as abstaining from meat on Fridays (Catholic tradition) for the pagan goddess Venus (Constantine renamed her Mary). This is why he said “touch not, handle not, taste not.” He was addressing the 40 days of “Lent” which originated with the “40 days of weeping for Tammuz.”

Paul was telling the Galatians and the Colossians not to allow any man to judge them because they were now keeping the Holy Feast days of Yehovah, which are prophetic shadow pictures of good things to come!

Paul was speaking to them about going back under the “elements” (zodiac signs after which pagan holidays are patterned). He was telling them not to be led by the “rudiments of this world” (nature worship, decorating trees for Nimrod).

Some of the Rabbi’s had picked up many pagan customs while in exile during Babylon and they incorporated it into their worship as seen in Ezekiel 8. They picked up Babylonian Mysticism called Kabbalah just like the Christian Church has picked up Babylonian Mysticism from the Roman Catholic Church today!

Colossians 2:16 says: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

This verse is often used out of context to justify keeping pagan days, but it is saying just the opposite. We are not to judge those who want to keep the feasts of YEHOVAH from Leviticus 23 that are called “holy” and we are not to judge each other in HOW these holy days are celebrated.

This means that we don’t have to sacrifice animals any longer under the new administration of grace. Every believer in Yeshua is now under the royal priesthood of Melchsidek, and so we do not celebrate these feasts in the rabbinic way that they were formerly kept. We are now led by the Holy Spirit in how we keep these holy days. This verse is in no way condoning keeping pagan days, because God never called them holy.

What is Paul talking about then in Colossians 2:16? He is telling them not to let any man judge them for wanting to keep holy days and the Sabbath. He is telling them not to let any man judge them for eating biblically clean foods rather than unclean foods which defile our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. How do we know that Paul is not condemning the celebration of God’s Holy Feast days?

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

*What was blotted out? The word ordinance here is “dogma” in Greek meaning a man made decree. What caused these man-made decrees to come into existence? It was the sinful nature of man—pride. Because of pride, rabbis had made up their own traditions in the temple that were against God’s Torah and they added in many pagan customs that they picked up while they were in exile in Babylon. These man made ordinances were “against us” because they teach us lies that are against God’s commandments. These man made doctrines and ordinances were nailed to the cross because they are the “leaven of the Pharisees.” God is against anything that “adds to or subtracts from” his Holy Law—the Torah.

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Maria’s Paraphrase of Paul in Colossians 2:15-17:

Because Messiah spoiled these demonic principalities which are behind these man made doctrines, and he made an open show of them, THEREFORE.......Let no pagan judge you in the clean meat that you eat now (now that you don’t eat parasite infested pork) and let no pagan judge you in the Passover Wine that you drink as part of the Covenant. Let no pagan judge you for watching for the new moons each month and sounding the shofar. Let no man judge you for wanting to keep God’s Holy Days and his Sabbath Days because these Holy Days and Sabbath days are a prophetic shadow picture of good things to come. But the Body of Messiah/Christ is allowed to judge you in these things. (1st Corinthians 5 tells us that we are supposed to judge those inside the household of faith.)

18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

What is Paul talking about here in Colossians 2:18-23? He is telling them not to be seduced by some false doctrine that promotes the worship of angels (putting an angel at the top of your Christmas Tree?); Having statues and graven images of angels decorating your house, etc. He is saying, if I may paraphrase:

“If you are dead to these former pagan customs why as though you are back in the world subject to these man made customs again? You are fasting for 40 days for Lent, giving up meat on Fridays during Lent, and all these man made customs which are patterned after the doctrines and commandments of men. These customs appear to be pious and show a false humility because they make you neglect your body, but they only serve to satisfy the flesh because you make yourself believe that you did something holy.”

Galatians 4:

8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

Maria’s Paraphrase:

When you did not know the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, and you were pagans, you served other gods by worshipping the created things in nature. Now that you know the God of Israel, why are you turning again to the weak elements of nature and zodiac signs? (Four elements of zodiac are: fire, water, air, earth).

Why do you desire to be in bondage again to paganism? You observe the pagan sun god holidays patterned after the zodiac signs; you follow your astrological forecast, by observing times and years etc. (Deuteronomy 18:10-11 calls these an abomination).

Paul continues in Galatians 4:

11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

Paul is speaking to these Galatians who have just come out of the bondage of man made religion. Judaism in those days was a mixture of God’s commandments mixed with pagan sun god worship from Babylon, much like today’s Christian Churches. He is telling them, why do you desire to be under bondage to the “Oral Law” of the Rabbi’s? He goes on and gives an allegory of two covenants. The first covenant given to Moses in stone tablets was corruptible or breakable. It was broken because of sin, not because the covenant or the commandments themselves were flawed. The first set of stone tablets were presented at Mount Sinai (Sinai is a Babylonian moon god) and this first covenant “genders to bondage” (Galatians 4:24) only because of the people’s idolatrous hearts. God’s covenant itself was not flawed.

God wanted Israel to hear his voice at Mount Sinai but they refused to hear his voice. So God had to give them his instructions in stone tablets which were impersonal. He knew they were not going to be able to keep it this way.

But the second set of stone tablets given to Moses when he went back up the second time, were not broken. Instead, they were deposited into an ark made of incorruptible wood (called shittim wood). And this wood never rots. This is symbolic of the New Covenant which is made “incorruptible” when we receive a new born again nature! When Moses presented the second set of tablets to Israel and they were deposited into that ark made of incorruptible wood, the sacrificial system was set up in the Tabernacle (symbolic of the cross and the blood atonement of Messiah). And this second set of tablets pre-figured the New Covenant! The second set of tablets were presented NOT at Mount Sinai this time but at “Mount Horeb” which was a different location within the same mountain range. But the word “Horeb” means “to kill, destroy.” This word “Horeb” represents the cross where sin was destroyed for us. And so the second set of stone tablets presented to Israel by Moses did not bring them into “bondage” as Paul described in Galatians 4, that this second covenant “genders to freedom” and answers to Jerusalem, where the sacrificial system was set up in the temple and Yeshua was ultimately sacrificed for us.

The New Covenant was presented on the day of Pentecost when the same “Law” of Moses was transferred from stone tablets and put into “fleshy tables of the heart” (2nd Corinthians 3:3) as the Renewed Covenant offered in Yeshua’s blood. This is where God restored our ability to “hear his voice” when the disciples spoke in tongues and each man present could “hear” his own language being spoken. God restored what he had always intended to do at Mount Sinai by allowing his to hear his Torah in our hearts by his own voice.

This New Covenant was not a different set of laws any more than the second set of stone tablets given to Israel through Moses was a different set of laws. The only difference was in the “form” that they were given to us in. The first covenant was corruptible or breakable (in stone tablets) and also in Yeshua’s corruptible body which was destroyed on the cross. But the second set of stone tablets pre-figured the New Covenant when Yeshua resurrected and put on incorruption. Yeshua is the Living Law or Living Word of God. He came to us as the “word became flesh” but he came in a corruptible form (like that first set of stone tablets). But after he destroyed the corruptible form of the law on the cross (like Moses broke the first set of tablets), then he put on incorruption and the Law (who is the person of Yeshua himself) became incorruptible exactly the same way that Moses deposited the second set of tablets into an ark made of incorruptible wood. Now the Law is all the more established in our hearts and minds because we are able to hear his voice.

So you see the Apostle Paul would be contradicting himself if he was stating in Colossians 2 & Galatians 4, that we were no longer supposed to keep God’s Holy Days, because he tells us that the law of God is all the more established in our hearts because of faith:

Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Galatians 4 describes two covenants:

1.) The First Covenant (stone tablets) were broken because of Idolatry with the Golden Calf at Mount Sinai. Sinai means “Babylonian Moon god.” This covenant genders to bondage because of their idolatry (not because God’s commandments put us in bondage).

2.)The Second Covenant was presented at Mount Horeb and deposited into the ark made of incorruptible wood (symbolic of a new incorruptible nature) and those commandments were identical to the first set which was broken. What was different? The sacrificial system in the Tabernacle was set up and blood atonement was made for their idolatry. They were also in faith when the second covenant (stone tablets) were presented and this brought them freedom!

22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Hagar.

25 For this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

So you see, both the Old & New Covenants were pre-figured in the book of Exodus! What puts men into bondage is not God’s Holy Laws, but the sin of Idolatry!

In these next TEN DAYS OF AWE, let’s repent as a nation and as a body of Messiah for tolerating the religion of Jezebel. Come out her my people!

2nd Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
